Toshiba laptop keyboard?

Occasionally when I'm just browsing the web, my Black keyboard for ASUS G51 G51J G51J3D G51Jx G51VX and mouse get sort of... messed up. The character keys don't output any letters or numbers, and the enter and backspace keys start typing spaces instead of moving cursor. The right and left click on my mouse becomes unresponsive half the time, though I can still move the cursor. I've found a temporary fix to this by switching users then switching back to my account, but I want to know what's causing this so it doesn't happen again.
