Brand new Gateway laptop not charging at all?

I bought a brand new Gateway laptop and it was my first time using it today. I charged the Gateway Laptop Battery overnight,but the Laptop Battery won't charge at all, it says 0% plugged in, not charging. I tried uninstalling the APCI battery device and then scanning but that didn't work. Should I buy a new one such as HP Laptop Battery?
